FIA GT Championship, 29.-30.08.2009
Hungaroring, Budapest
“The opportunity to start in a Team KplusK Motorsport’s Saleen S7 at the Hungaroring (Budapest) arose at very short notice. Since I have never driven a GT race car before I did not know what to expect“,
says Max Nilsson who is currently racing in the German Formula 3 for Swiss Racing Team. Max Nilsson who will end his formula racing career in 2009 is looking for opportunities to drive a touring car in 2010.
During the free practice session on Saturday Max Nilsson was able to test the 600PS car and managed well. Damaged gearing limited his test time during the second free practice session.
Adam Lacko (CZE) drove the first stint and after about 40 minutes Max Nilsson (SWE) took over. He had problems starting the engine and lost 7 seconds. He managed the Saleen S7 very well and was able to reach remarkable sector times. “I had fun with the GT car but I realise that I still have to practise a lot, because for example the braking points are different for such a heavy car compared to a formula car,” an enthusiastic Max Nilsson explains.
His first participation was very successful and he was happy with the work of the Czech team.
We are looking forward to his next FIA GT race. For the time being his next race in a formula car will be at the Sachsenring circuit in Germany (18th to 20th September).
